[KB6842] Upgrade to ESET Cyber Security and ESET Cyber Security Pro version 6.6 fails on previous versions of macOS (10.6 – 10.8)

Issue

  • Installation fails when upgrading ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro version 6.5 to version 6.6
  • Version 6.6 is no longer supported on macOS 10.6 (Snow Leopard), 10.7 (Lion) and 10.8 (Mountain Lion)

Solution

To resolve the issue, follow the steps below:

  1. Depending on your ESET product, delete one of the following files:
    /Applications/ESET Cyber Security/Contents/Helpers/Uninstaller.app
    or
    /Applications/ESET Cyber Security Pro/Contents/Helpers/Uninstaller.app
  2. Open the 6.5 installation file (either from a previously downloaded DMG file or from an installation CD/DVD).
  3. Double-click Uninstall.
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Download (or use an installation CD/DVD) and install ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro version 6.5. During the installation in the Version Check step deselect the Download and install new version option.

Eset Cyber Security For Mac Review

  • Verify that the latest detection engine updates have been received
  • You receive the notification 'Update information is not consistent'

Details

By default, ESET products check every hour for a new update and are updated at least once a day with new detection engine updates and occasional program component updates.

Solution

Are you a windows user? Click Here.

Complete the steps in solution I and then continue to solutions II and III if the issue is not resolved.

I. Verify that the latest detection engine updates have been received

  1. Open ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro.
  2. Click Update.
  3. If you see the Modules have been updated successfully message, no update is necessary. You can also compare the latest detection engine version listed below to your own.
    • The current Version of detection engine is: 20751 released on January 29, 2020

  4. If your detection engine is not current, the ESET icon on your menu bar will change to a yellow exclamation point and the message 'ESET Cyber Security/Cyber Security Pro requires your attention' will be displayed in the home screen. Click Update Update modules.

  1. If the modulese update successfully, you are finished.

If you receive an error regarding inconsistent update information, following the instructions in part II below.

II. 'Virus signature database could not be updated' error

Important! The instructions below only apply to ESET Cyber Security/ESET Cyber Security Pro versions 6.0.x and earlier

Upgrade to ESET Cyber Security

A newer version of ESET Cyber Security for Mac has been released. We highly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version. Upgrade for free with a valid product license:

  1. Click Username and Password setup (in version 5.x and earlier, click Update→ Update license details).

  1. In the Username and Password Setup window, enter your Username and Password, verify that they are entered correctly and click OK. If the issue is not resolved, continue to part III below.

Usernames and Passwords

Remember to enter your Username and Password exactly as they are written:

  • The username and password are case sensitive
  • The hyphen in the username is necessary
  • The password is ten characters long and all lowercase
  • If you are copying and pasting, make sure you don't select an extra blank space
  • We do not use the letter L in passwords (use the number one (1) instead)
  • A big '0' is the number zero (0); a little 'o' is the lowercase letter o

III. Enable pre-release updates

View instructions to enable pre-release updates. Make sure that you follow the instructions completely and disable pre-release updates once your issue has been resolved.
